St. John the Evangelist and the Archdiocese of Baltimore have a commitment to maintaining the trust of the faithful by providing our children and youth with safe environments characterized by healthy relationships. With our longstanding commitment in mind, all parishes and archdiocesan Catholic schools use Shield the Vulnerable, a compliance management system that allows all parishes and schools to facilitate compliance with archdiocesan child protection requirements for all employees, clergy and adult volunteers.
No one 18 years or older may volunteer until they have completed the Shield the Vulnerable process and are compliant. Anyone volunteering with youth needs to register indicating their affiliation has substantial contact with youth. The components of the STAND certification requirements, including the Volunteer Application, Criminal History Screening, STAND Training, Statement of Policy for the Protection of Children & Youth, Code of Conduct for Church Personnel of the Archdiocese of Baltimore & other elements are now being processed through the Shield the Vulnerable website.
